Fictitious Woodbridge is based upon the very real town of Woodstock, Vermont (no, not the site of the famous concert!). Its the type of place youd imagine when you thought of the epitome of the New England town, with its village green, white colonial houses, and covered bridges. I was there in October, which meant I had the colored autumn leaves to add to all the rest of the charm. Too bad all the B&Bs were 200 dollars a night!

In A Midnight Clear the heroine is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College, my own alma mater. Mount Holyoke has been in the business of educating women since 1837, and I always knew that I'd have to find a way to work the school into a story. I sometimes wonder what my former English professors think when they see announcements of my romance novels in the alumnae quarterly -- are they thrilled or appalled? Perhaps I'll have to send a stack of my books to MHC's library. Heaven knows I myself had more fun reading romances there than reading King Lear for the third time.

A covered bridge in Woodstock, Vermont, a town that became 'Woodbridge' for the story.
